{"id":1013,"date":"2011-05-16T19:53:25","date_gmt":"2011-05-16T19:53:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldteamnow.org\/blog\/?p=1013"},"modified":"2011-05-17T15:39:29","modified_gmt":"2011-05-17T15:39:29","slug":"innovation-takes-flight-destruction-on-heals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldteamnow.org\/blog\/2011\/05\/16\/innovation-takes-flight-destruction-on-heals\/","title":{"rendered":"Innovation Takes Flight, Destruction on Heals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The rate of bold innovation and landmark actions for society\u2019s transformation is quickening in direct proportion with the challenges presented for humanity\u2019s future with our earth as both social and environmental challenges present. \u00a0As the shadow of nuclear <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newscientist.com\/blogs\/shortsharpscience\/2011\/05\/wendy-zukerman-asia-pacific-re.html\">rods melted<\/a>, and other outmoded sources of energy by products wash ashore, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.solarimpulse.com\/\">Solar Impulse<\/a> takes flight, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newscientist.com\/blogs\/onepercent\/2011\/05\/human-powered-helicopter.html\">human powered\u00a0helicopters<\/a>\u00a0are tested.<\/p>\n<p>The<a href=\"http:\/\/www.solarimpulse.com\/sitv\/pictures.php?lang=en\"> Solar Impulse<\/a> breaks new ground being the 1<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0to fly a solar airplane internationally, from Switzerland to Belgium.\u00a0 Pilot Andre\u2019 Borschberg shared this dream at U.N.\u2018s COP15, Copenhagen in 2009 and today his dream is a reality, met with success.\u00a0 A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newscientist.com\/blogs\/onepercent\/2011\/05\/human-powered-helicopter.html\">human powered helicopter also took flight<\/a> for the first time today.\u00a0 We need more groundbreaking possibilities in the face of the reality in<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/05\/13\/world\/asia\/13japan.html?\"> Japan that the reactor damage is worse than expected<\/a>.\u00a0 The radioactive rods may have melted entirely.\u00a0 In the USA the study ordered to review the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/05\/13\/business\/energy-environment\/13nuke.html\">status of the nuclear power plants in the USA<\/a> comes back with dismal results only 1\/3 of the way through the evaluation. With the aviation sector growing towards alternative energy, plus this past weeks\u2019 progress with the<a href=\"http:\/\/worldteamnow.org\/blog\/2011\/05\/10\/spotlight-on-renewable-energy-u-n-s-ipcc-report\/\"> IPCC report summary on renewable energy<\/a> we may end up with a solution that will support escaping our energy problem.<\/p>\n<p>Could this be\u00a0perceived\u00a0as a race for an exit strategy, or for innovation to transform our world? \u00a0The weight of these paths are symptoms, as is\u00a0the recent\u00a0eruption\u00a0of violence of the long standing &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/05\/16\/world\/middleeast\/16mideast.html?pagewanted=2&amp;_r=1&amp;nl=todaysheadlines&amp;emc=tha2\">social issue&#8221; between Palestine and\u00a0Israel <\/a>that\u00a0permeate our lives &#8212; it would be much easier to choose a form of distraction, and focus our attention on something else.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As the shadow of nuclear rods melted, and other outmoded sources of energy by products wash ashore, the SolarImpulse takes flight, and human powered helicopters are tested.
