There we so many inspirational highlights at this year\u2019s event\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/photos.app.goo.gl\/1s8tMiUkQaggMGtn6\">see World Team Now&#8217;s photo album<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>The AltCar Expo had the latest in various\u00a0Alternative Technology Vehicles: Electric, Hydrogen, Propane, Natural Gas, Bio-Diesel, Hybrid but since <a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldteamnow.org\">World Team Now<\/a> is focused on long term solutions that are\u00a0sustainable\u00a0&#8220;cradle to cradle&#8221; &#8211;we focus on electric, which can be charged by\u00a0renewable\u00a0energy source like; solar, wind or hydro. We love the concept of the solar boat.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 320px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" \" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/-JByFdV6OjTg\/Uj4D_nVrsmI\/AAAAAAAAc1M\/U3HGdwiN36U\/w860-h645-no\/1231257_515356141885089_1563952679_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"310\" height=\"232\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ford&#8217;s C-Maxx Energi and Fusion informational poster<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #444444; line-height: 1.7;\">Good old fashion American Ford and Chevy are now gaining strength in the market with electric vehicles and plug-in electric vehicles(PHEVs). \u00a0 The<\/span><a style=\"line-height: 1.7;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ford.com\/cars\/cmax\/features\/?searchid=84137934|3857408814|32617409914#page=Feature1&amp;ef_id=Uh14iQAABa@6nRPg:20130925155031:s\"> C-Max Energi from Ford<\/a><span style=\"color: #444444; line-height: 1.7;\"> is a promising vehicle that may lead the market in PHEVs eventually, but we could not fully evaluate that from our one test drive experience. \u00a0What is evident is the number of options from each manufacturer who are all now entering either the hybrid, plug-in hybrid and all-electric vehicles with products to choose from, like <\/span><span style=\"color: #444444; line-height: 1.7;\">Chevy\u2019s new<\/span><a style=\"line-height: 1.7;\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chevrolet_Spark\">\u00a0\u201cSpark<\/a>\u201d.<span style=\"color: #444444; line-height: 1.7;\">\u00a0 Nissan continues to surprise improving on their leading EV, here with\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #444444; line-height: 1.7;\">Nissan\u2019s souped-up Leaf, <\/span><a style=\"line-height: 1.7;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.autoweek.com\/article\/20130822\/CARREVIEWS\/130829950\">the Nissan Leaf Nismo RC<\/a><span style=\"color: #444444; line-height: 1.7;\">. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/worldteamnow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/20130921_141155.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-2204\" src=\"http:\/\/worldteamnow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/20130921_141155-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"20130921_141155\" width=\"192\" height=\"144\" srcset=\"https:\/\/worldteamnow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/20130921_141155-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/worldteamnow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/20130921_141155-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/worldteamnow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/20130921_141155-800x600.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 192px) 100vw, 192px\" \/><\/a><\/span><span style=\"color: #444444; line-height: 1.7;\">\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"line-height: 1.7;\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/BMW_i3\">BMW\u2019s i3<\/a><span style=\"color: #444444; line-height: 1.7;\"> EV has range and is part of a new brand, <\/span><a style=\"line-height: 1.7;\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/BMW_i3\">BMW i<\/a><span style=\"color: #444444; line-height: 1.7;\">, consisting of EVs and hybrids. EPA made a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/wonkblog\/wp\/2013\/09\/20\/everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-epas-carbon-limits-for-new-power-plants\/\">solid step in limiting emissions<\/a> Friday of new coal plants to 1,100 pounds of carbon-dioxide per megawatt-hour of power produced.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 301px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" \" title=\"Team Marine with Volts Watson\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/-GWREA8pmRnw\/Uj4D_JisZJI\/AAAAAAAAc08\/k74NF5ZOsjo\/w809-h607-no\/1233462_515355541885149_1170321706_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"291\" height=\"218\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Team Marine in &#8220;Volts Watson&#8221;<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The heart of the inspiration was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.teammarine.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/News-Release-High-School-Students-Convert-Classic-Combustible-into-EV.pdf\">Santa Monica High School\u2019s club Team Marine<\/a>, there to unveil their newly transformed vehicle named Volts Watson \u2013 an old Volkswagen Beetle from 1971 that is now all-electric <a href=\"https:\/\/photos.app.goo.gl\/EBMfF1PLQQGJ6cec8\">(see photo album<\/a>). It was a heartwarming experience to see one of the children that I taught to skate, ocean swim and many other of his life\u2019s first experiences, Matthew Zarken, be part of Team Marine. There were many opportunities to see the evolution of the electric vehicle from its beginning to now \u2013 the growth is remarkable. there was a new milestone with more than 10,000 EVs sold in August. &#8220;The 35 million EVs sold in 2012 will rise 3.6 times to nearly 129 million in 2022&#8221;, (worldwide and including e-bikes) \u00a0as cited in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.idtechex.com\/research\/reports\/electric-vehicles-2012-2022-000280.asp\">this <\/a>report that\u00a0demonstrates how the vehicle game is changing.
