{"id":2860,"date":"2015-12-23T16:58:53","date_gmt":"2015-12-23T16:58:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldteamnow.org\/blog\/?p=2860"},"modified":"2015-12-30T00:17:51","modified_gmt":"2015-12-30T00:17:51","slug":"our-energy-on-earth-people-of-power-cop21-paris-stepping-out-beyond-boundaries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldteamnow.org\/blog\/2015\/12\/23\/our-energy-on-earth-people-of-power-cop21-paris-stepping-out-beyond-boundaries\/","title":{"rendered":"Our Energy on Earth: People of Power @ COP21 Paris Stepping Out Beyond Boundaries \u00a9"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Suzanne Maxx<\/em><\/p>\n<p>At the coming of age with the United Nation\u2019s COP21, there was a climax from the collaboration, of not only nations, but also, with civil society.\u00a0 The power of the people to deliver the messages creatively captured the true spirit of the renowned artistic and cultural mecca Paris, France.<\/p>\n<p>The Paris <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/November_2015_Paris_attacks\">terrorist attacks<\/a> \u00a0happened literally the day the plans for the people\u2019s climate march and other NGO activities\u2019 press releases were set to hit the global media. All activities planned for this period of time in Paris were then colored by the darkness of fear.\u00a0 Initially there was concern about what could actually take place under this \u201cclimate\u201d.\u00a0 Most of the outside public events for people, with venues in the streets were canceled, understandably with the security concerns of safety.\u00a0 Security was heighten and restrictions were imposed.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2862\" style=\"width: 287px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2862\" class=\"wp-image-2862\" src=\"http:\/\/worldteamnow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/paris-skate.jpg\" alt=\"paris-skate\" width=\"277\" height=\"492\" srcset=\"https:\/\/worldteamnow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/paris-skate.jpg 290w, https:\/\/worldteamnow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/paris-skate-169x300.jpg 169w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 277px) 100vw, 277px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2862\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Suzanne Maxx rolls on a plane to Paris<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The initial activities that World Team Now planned, with our goal to launch \u201cWorld Team\u201d during this time, became impossible.\u00a0 Quite frankly we, like many others, did not know we would be able to make it to Paris for COP21 at all, our efforts seemed thwarted, until it was all actually happening. \u00a0\u00a0After finally making a plane to Paris, I was pleased to be able to board with my roller skates on, the most efficient way to travel through these long international airport terminals, demonstrating human powered renewable human energy for sustainable transportation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re all getting used to rolling forward regardless of external circumstances of seemingly insurmountable obstacles.\u00a0 We were not alone\u2014this was a common challenge to many others who have the understanding of what is at stake for our planet and humanity breathing through the core of their being.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2866\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2866\" class=\"wp-image-2866 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/worldteamnow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/20151206_151317-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"20151206_151317\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/worldteamnow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/20151206_151317-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/worldteamnow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/20151206_151317-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/worldteamnow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/20151206_151317-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/worldteamnow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/20151206_151317-800x450.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2866\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The sunshine rays in the aerial art piece below. Paris COP21 was the opportunity to complete this long term collective goal. Back in 1992 at the first Earth Summit\/ Global Forum, I don\u2019t think any of us thought it would take this long to get an agreement for humanity and our environment, and after COP15 in Copenhagen many of us wondered about the possibility of the United Nations to agree on what matters most. Many groups, like the International New York Times produced events like their <a href=\"http:\/\/inytenergyfortomorrow.com\/\">Energy for Tomorrow<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0 Many individuals and groups found ways to join together and creatively express their voices. While celebrating, the climate movement, I can personally attest that while we are now climbing to these heights of possibility, it was not easy-and we still have a long way to go to touch down to the ground.
