{"id":391,"date":"2009-09-20T21:14:14","date_gmt":"2009-09-20T21:14:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldteamnow.org\/blog\/?p=391"},"modified":"2009-10-14T22:40:44","modified_gmt":"2009-10-14T22:40:44","slug":"united-nations-specific-measurable-results","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldteamnow.org\/blog\/2009\/09\/20\/united-nations-specific-measurable-results\/","title":{"rendered":"United Nations-Specific Measurable Results?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/worldteamnow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/phoca3.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-397\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/worldteamnow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/phoca3.jpg?w=112\" alt=\"phoca\" width=\"112\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>By Suzanne Maxx \u00a9<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The UN is back in session, and the world looks for &#8220;Specific\u00a0Measurable\u00a0Results&#8221; \u00a0towards global transformation.<\/p>\n<p>Yves de Boer, executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, has said the key to the success of the Copenhagen conference \u2013 also known as COP15 \u2013 will be how much industrialized countries (Defined as \u201cDeveloped\u201d) are willing to reduce their emissions of greenhouse gases and how much India and China (Defined as \u201cDeveloping\u201d) are willing to limit the growth of their emissions.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps there is a better way to define a country? To work with countries of our world within the framework of the words the UN has labeled as \u201cDeveloped,\u201d \u201cDeveloping, and Least Developed\u201d, has an orientation of values that may not be in the best interest of humanity\u2019s future on this planet earth.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Kofi Annan\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kofi_Annan\">Kofi Annan<\/a>, former Secretary General of the United Nations, defined a developed country as follows. &#8220;A developed country is one that allows all its citizens to enjoy a free and healthy life in a safe environment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Perceptions of freedom, safety and health can be relative.\u00a0 It is important to consider that presently there is no established convention for the designation of &#8220;developed&#8221; and &#8220;developing&#8221; countries or areas in the\u00a0<a title=\"United Nations\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_Nations\">United Nations<\/a> system.<\/p>\n<p>Do these words, defining how each country can play in the world game restrict our world? \u00a0\u00a0Is there a better way to define countries that will inspire better co-operation, a more level playing field, so all countries can approach global treaties truly looking out for the benefit of humanity?\u00a0 If we are going to use defining words, perhaps there could be an established convention for designation? \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/worldteamnow.org\">World Team Now<\/a> seeks alternative definitions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Suzanne Maxx \u00a9 The UN is back in session, and the world looks for &#8220;Specific\u00a0Measurable\u00a0Results&#8221; \u00a0towards global transformation.
