Stimulus for Transformation?

What do you love for Valentine’s Day?  How about a possibility for the USA to move towards transformation?  It is hard to believe we may see some governmental support for Alternative and Renewable Energy & Technology: Green Building, Solar, Wind, Plug in Electric Vehicles, a Smart Grid, the fact that these are finally being recognized is a demonstration of love of our earth and humanity, consciousness growing– on Valentine’s Day in the USA. Here is what appears to be in the box of candy, but one never knows when you bite into it, what is on the inside….

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan (H.R.1), passed by Congress today is expected to be forwarded, and signed into law shortly.
Highlights from the Stimulus Package are:

Renewable Energy Incentives

$20 billion in tax incentives for renewable energy and energy efficiency over 10 years, including: extending tax credits for energy produced from wind, geothermal, hydropower and landfill gas; (This is very exciting!)
grants to build renewable energy facilities ;(
hope many can benefit, this is great especially if policy comes into play to inspire people towards transformation)
tax credits for purchases of energy-efficient furnaces, windows and doors, or insulation;(NYSERDA co-generation, heat coolant geothermal?)
tax credit for families that purchase plug-in hybrid vehicles (finally incentives, the Electric Vehicle will indeed be resurrected, and with better batteries: A123 )

Energy
About $50 billion for energy programs, focused chiefly on efficiency and renewable energy, (ok, this gets us going!) including
$5 billion to weatherize modest-income homes;
$6.4 billion to clean up nuclear weapons production sites; (this merits further discussion later)
$11 billion toward a so-called “smart electricity grid” —Yes, it is so anitquated our Grid, it’s time to reduce waste;
$13.9 billion to subsidize loans for renewable energy projects (Elation!  World Team -Dream to Reality);
$6.3 billion in state energy efficiency and clean energy grants(NYSERDA’s deserves support for their programs)
$4.5 billion make federal buildings more energy efficient (“Got to be the change ….”)

Elated about most of this but,  we will discuss the nuclear waste issue when we are not in a mode of gratitude…

Science
$3 billion for the National Science Foundation for basic science and engineering research; (Yes, hopefully explore the ocean and more with Tidal Energy)
$1 billion for NASA;
$1.6 billion research in areas such as climate science, biofuels, high-energy physics and nuclear physics. .

Infrastructure
$46 billion for transportation projects, including $27 billion for highway and bridge construction and repair;
$8.4 billion for mass transit;
$8 billion for construction of high-speed railways and $1.3 billion for Amtrak;
$4.6 billion for the Army Corps of Engineers;
$4 billion for public housing improvements;
$6.4 billion for clean and drinking water projects;
$7 billion to bring broadband Internet service to underserved areas.

Expanded college credit
About $13 billion to provide a $2,500 expanded tax credit for college tuition and related expenses for 2009 and 2010. The credit is phased out for couples making more than $160,000.

It will be interesting to see what legislation actually goes into effect and becomes solid. We focused on the legislation that aligned with the core competencies of the work we have been focused on developing with World Team for almost two decades.  The other issues are significant as well but, and like cells of our body all contribute to the whole of this will become emergent.

  1. New York– Net Metering:

The Net Metering Bills passed State of New York Legislature this past year for both residential and commercial users. New York State’s Secretary Deputy of Energy, Paul DeCotis from Governor Patterson’s Office,  helped World Team Now move forward with not only Net Metering information but also our upcoming building projects in New York City with introductions.    Jim Gallagher of Mayor Bloomberg’s Economic Development Council (EDC) was one; he spoke about Net Metering in this piece released by Con ED:

 http://www.coned.com/newsroom/news/pr20090128.asp

Jim and his team at EDC met with World Team Now’s Founder/President, Suzanne Maxx, and Board member, Albert Boulanger of Columbia’s CCLS (also working on a Con Ed project), and they explored ways to work together…

4.     California– Net Metering

It’s happening now!  We all want specific measurable results, and the key to your renewable energy system is indeed: the meter:

The third annual Solar Metering & Performance Monitoring (SMPM) Expo is held in conjunction with DistribuTECH 2009. SMPM 2009, presented by the Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA), is designed to bring together utilities, technology vendors, and solar installers re: meters, inverters, monitoring equipment, services, the smart grid, and understanding photovoltaic performance measures.

Change

We are ready for change with our new President Obama.

To new energy, new policy, solar, wind, geothermal, tidal, biomass, green jobs, plug-in electric vehicles, a smarter grid, and global consciousness….

May we all work together as a team to continuously play in transforming our world.

To change, and it’s time for World Team Now, may we be an example of change.

We changed our name, our 501c3 non-profit corporation: “Team World Corps” is “World Team Now!”

Lights, Cameras, Action!

Lights, Cameras, Action

Lights, Camera, and Action we are ready for World Team Now! We are about change, and with that we are bringing in the New Year with a new name: Our non-profit 501c3 organization, “Team World Corps'” name is changing to “World Team Now”.

“World Team Now” will help us build the “World Team” Project’s brand, as we have the copyright with USPTO of the name “World Team” for our multi-media project. We have been using the name “World Team” in commerce since 1989.

“World Team Now” is registered in New York as a public charity with the Secretary of State. We covered our basis and are listed both as “Team World Corps” & “World Team Now” in New York State. We are in process with our home state California, to be listed as “World Team Now, instead of “Team World Corps”. Team World Corps officially started up in 2005, and we were granted our 501c3 status right before 2007.

The words to the holiday classic “Jingle Bells”, works with the words “World Team Now”—try it for fun.

We stand for trees, ideally not removed from forests or their natural habitats, but flourishing continuing to be more than the lungs of our planet. However this tree with the contrasting concrete as a back drop reminds us of the majestic power and beauty of nature.  It gives a true perspective about where we are and what we do with our resources.

The iconic tree is more beautifully decorated with blue-purple-indigo-violet lights this year! We are reminded that Light prevails, and in all colors. We celebrate the Light that transcends our divisions and is inclusive for all.

We celebrate all that Light brings to all– living in this world. What about in the future a hologram of a living tree in forest shining from the sunlight sparkles from the reflection, in the snow?

The concentrated Light shines, can’t help to wonder how much electricity this tree’s lights use? Wonder if those are LED lights, and thankful they are turning them off and not keeping them on all night.

If you decorate a tree, may it be live. Since this one is for all and is here in the middle of New York City, when forests are a scarce, we might as well enjoy it and appreciate this tree’s journey for us…

A prayer for consciousness, the Holidays and the Light that illuminates man’s and nature’s world.

May the Light be in you, and may you shine it out to the world.

Happy Holidays!

Local Net Metering Energy Initiative Brightens the way for Global World Team Project

Now property owners in Lake Placid, New York, will have an opportunity to start saving money from their homes and businesses, with renewable energies. On Saturday, October 18, the Mayor of Lake Placid, the municipal electric department, the region’s energy efficiency program (IEEP), and World Team Now, (aka World Team Now), along with Lake Placid icon Betty Eldridge, will launch an initiative to showcase renewable energy options. Through this local team initiative, owners with renewable energy system(s), such as solar, will be gifted a “Net Meter”. The Net Meter can measure, not only the use of electricity but also the electricity produced on site by the home or business, which will be “bought back” from Lake Placid Village Electric. There will be lead-up events taking place at Mrs. Eldridge’s residence in Lake Placid on Sunday, September 28th, and Saturday, Oct. 4th. Mrs. Eldridge will host a tour of her environmental model home, as well as lead an outdoor cleanup. See http://worldteamnow.org. The initiative is a joint effort between local/regional bodies, World Team and World Team Now, a 501(c)(3) whose mission is to activate a global forum to implement sustainable solutions for environmental and social issues. The program will give local customers an incentive to invest in renewable energy options through the use of this single device – the net meter.

The first net meter purchased by the village will be installed, at the home of 68-year-old Betty Eldridge, former headmistress of local North Country School, and longtime resident of Lake Placid on October the 18th.

“I’m tired of talking the talk and ready to walk the walk,” says Mrs. Eldridge, who is known for her global work with Greenpeace and for serving on the local Board of the Adirondack Council.

WTN - Net Metering Initiative“Betty is the perfect role model for this net metering initiative,” says Suzanne Maxx, founder and president of World Team Now, and a former student of the North Country School. “She is a pioneer, like Eleanor Roosevelt.”

With net meters, customers of electric power can measure not only how much energy they use, but also how much energy they themselves generate with the help of renewable energies as varied as solar, wind, heat/coolant, geothermal, biogas and hydro/tidal.

As with Mrs. Eldridge, the town’s electric department will be supplying meters to all who apply, so customers need only pick out their energy pleasure.

“With these meters, you can start slowly growing your garden of renewable energy options,” says Maxx.

“We are pleased to be participating in this metering initiative with World Team Now, World Team and Betty Eldridge, as Lake Placid has a long history of practicing energy conservation,” says Jamie Rogers, Mayor of Lake Placid. “This step is extremely valuable given the concerns of our energy grid’s pressure for the state and the country.”

The installation event on October 18 at Mrs. Eldridge’s home will have information about alternative energy sources for the community. Curt Snyder, of Crest Solar Power Solutions, has worked on Mrs. Eldridge’s solar system and will be on hand, along with others, to provide information on geothermal heating, photovoltaic, and hot water solar systems. Renowned environmentalists and Adirondack residents Bill McKibben and Bobby Kennedy, Jr., along with New York State Deputy Secretary of Energy Paul DeCotis, have been invited to attend.
